The airline operates domestic and international passenger services to 97 cities in 48 countries, mainly from Sheremetyevo International Airport. During the Soviet era, Aeroflot was the Soviet national airline and the largest airline in the world. Since the dissolution of the USSR, Aeroflot has been transformed from a state-run enterprise into a semi-privatised airline which ranks amongst the most profitable in the world. Aeroflot is still considered the de facto national airline of Russia. Aeroflot has embarked on a fleet modernisation program, extensive route restructuring, and an image overhaul. The airline joined SkyTeam in April 2006. The company is chaired by Viktor Ivanov, and the general director is Vitaly Savelev.

The airlines main passenger base is located at Moscow's Vnukovo International Airport. Atlant-Soyuz Airlines started operations in June 1993. It is owned by private investors (75%) and the City of Moscow (25%). It has 726 employees. Atlant-Soyuz and Evergreen International Airlines of Oregon are to establish a new joint venture, operating scheduled cargo services between the United States and China, via Russia (Domodedovo Airport) and Western Europe. Atlant-Soyuz Airlines offer a wide range of chartered cargo flights throughout Russia, Asia, Africa, and Europe. Cargo flights are operated with Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft.

    Air Baltic Corporation, operating as AirBaltic (styled as airBaltic), is the Latvian national airline, based in the capital of Latvia, Riga. Its main base is Riga International Airport (RIX), and its secondary hub is Vilnius, Lithuania. AirBaltic operates 61 direct flights from Riga and 3 from Vilnius, as well as non-stop flights on the routes Kaliningrad - Copenhagen, Linkoping - Bergen, Linkoping - Stavanger, Kuopio - Tampere, Oulu - Turku (scheduled for the autumn 2009), Tallinn - Turku (scheduled for the autumn 2009). AirBaltic's inflight magazine, Baltic Outlook, is published six times per year by SIA Rigas laiks, and can be found in the seatback pockets of every seat. Passengers can take the magazine with them when they disembark their flights. There are only English articles in the magazine. The first edition of Baltic Outlook magazine was published in 2003. There is also a selection of domestic and international newspapers on all flights, except for flights within the Baltics.
